Organize Your Inbox with Claude Code
Checked October 29, 2026
Connect Claude Code to Postage, write how you handle mail in CLAUDE.md ("archive receipts after 30 days, flag anything from my accountant"), and ask Claude Code to organize your inbox. It finds the mail with search, applies every change in one batch, and Postage lists the batch in Settings > Agents with a single Undo.
1. Connect Claude Code
In Postage, Settings > Agents, turn on the server, then copy the Claude Code command and run it in Terminal. Set Claude Code's access to Organize and draft so it can archive, move and flag. It still can't delete or send.
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user postage http://127.0.0.1:47913/mcp \
--header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_POSTAGE_TOKEN"2. Write your rules once
Postage has no rules engine. Your rules live with your agent, in plain words, where you can change them any time. Put something like this in ~/.claude/CLAUDE.md:
## Email (Postage)
When I ask you to organize my email, use the Postage MCP server and these instructions:
- Archive receipts, order confirmations and shipping notices older than 30 days.
- Flag anything from my accountant.
- Archive newsletters older than a week.
- Leave anything from a person you're unsure about in the inbox and tell me.
Find the mail with search, make every change in one apply_actions call so I can undo it in one step, then tell me what changed. Never send mail; save drafts for me to review instead.Settings > Agents > Instructions can also save a ready-made Claude Code skill (postage-mail) with these steps in it, for a folder you pick.
3. Run it
Ask Claude Code to "organize my inbox", or run the built-in prompt /mcp__postage__organize_inbox. The prompt hands Claude your recent mail and the exact tools to call. Want a look first? Ask for a dry run: Claude previews the batch and nothing changes.
- Every change in a run lands in one batch, so one Undo puts all of it back.
- Running the same instructions again skips mail that's already handled, and leaves alone anything you changed back by hand.
- Each read returns a checkpoint, so the next run looks only at mail that arrived since.
- Mail that reads like it's giving orders to an AI comes back marked suspicious, and email text always reaches the agent marked as untrusted.
4. Make it a morning routine
Settings > Agents > Instructions saves a morning run: a launchd job that has Claude Code apply your skill at 8 AM, or when your Mac wakes if it was asleep. You pick where the file goes, and Postage shows the one line that starts it. Each run shows up in Postage with its summary, a notification, and Undo for a week.
Questions
Can Claude Code delete my mail?
Only at Full access, and then only to Trash. At Organize and draft it can archive, move, flag and mark read, but not delete.
What if it archives something I wanted?
Open Settings > Agents > Activity and press Undo on that batch, or on a single message. Undo works for a week, even after you quit Postage.
Does this work with Codex too?
Yes. Put the same instructions in ~/.codex/AGENTS.md and ask Codex to organize your inbox. Postage serves the same tools and prompts to every agent.
